After a delightful summer, winter has arrived! Do you also love camping in the winter? In this blog, we share the Bo-Camp winter essentials.

Why Winter Camping?

Despite the colder and darker weather, camping in the winter has its advantages:

Cost-Effective: Winter camping is often much cheaper than during the peak season. Many natural campsites offer lower rates in the off-season. This is ideal, considering costs can add up significantly in the summer.

Wildlife Spotting: The chances of spotting wildlife in nature are higher in the winter than in the summer. During the winter months, nature tends to be quieter, offering the possibility of encountering birds of prey, Scottish Highlanders, or even foxes!

Cold is Good: Sleeping in the cold can be beneficial for a person. However, it's essential to stay warm enough to avoid becoming too cold.

What to Bring?

Camping in the winter requires some different gear compared to summer camping. Here's a list of essentials you'll definitely need:

Thick Sleeping Bag

Ensure your body stays warm during sleep by opting for a sleeping bag designed for lower temperatures. Bo-Camp offers a sleep collection specifically for those who want to camp in colder conditions.

Tip: If camping in freezing conditions, consider the Vendeen sleeping bag—it keeps you warm even at -10°C.

Camping Lighting

As the sun sets earlier in the winter, illuminate your camping site with the coolest camping lamps. Bo-Camp has an extensive range of camping lighting, including floor lamps, hanging lamps, and storm lanterns. Many lamps even feature a solar function, which is handy when charging points are limited.

Insulation

Take care of insulation to keep yourself and your belongings dry. Use an insulation mat under your tent and opt for an insulating mat or air mattress for sleeping.

Dutch Oven

Planning to cook your meals? Make a delicious stew or homemade bread over the campfire with the Dutch Oven. This cast-iron pan with a lid is specially designed for cooking, baking, and roasting over a campfire.

Heater

Keep your tent or caravan warm with a heater! This also prevents your belongings from freezing. Ensure there is sufficient ventilation and follow the instructions carefully. Circulating warm air creates dry air in the tent, while a radiant heater can cause condensation.
Tip: Opt for an oscillating heater for good air distribution, ensuring even distribution of warm or fresh air.

Extra Tips for Winter Camping

  • The ground is often much harder in the winter due to the cold, so bring a heavy hammer. Also, bring a steel peg for pre-drilling, as aluminum pegs can break in cold weather.
  • Stay warm by layering clothing and consider wearing thermal underwear.
  • Stay warm while sleeping by not leaning against the inner tent. Opt for a slightly wider tent.
  • Planning to make a campfire? Be cautious with your (waterproof) shoes. If they get too close to the fire, the glue layer between the soles may come loose, potentially compromising their waterproof function.

Camping in Style

Camp in style this winter with Bo-Camp's Industrial and Urban Outdoor collections. These collections reflect current interior design trends. Choose the Industrial collection for a more rugged style—matte black or gold dishes and cutlery are on-trend. Opt for the Urban Outdoor collection if you prefer the combination of bamboo and gray aluminum materials, characterized by beige and gray tones and black-and-white patterns.
